Learning sign language has challenged me in new and different ways that no other language ever has. I have had to question basic things like handedness and spatial orientation in my quest to master this new form of communication. Not since my first few days of kindergarten, or anytime I have tried to pick up a new sport, have I had to think so hard about which hand is my dominant hand. After four weeks, I seem to be back to being left hand dominant. Spatial orientation will, however, take a little longer.

This class has made me rethink how I approach languages, as well as what it must be like to live without the ability to hear.
